BACK IN THE SADDLE

A week or so after the second cortisone injection in my left elbow I’m still wearing my pressure armband, although things are gradually improving.

I’ve stopped taking regular doses of ibuprofen and I’m planning on not wearing the pressure armband every other day until I feel confident enough to do away with it altogether.

The good news is I’ve been out on my bike and completed a 14 mile ride last Sunday with fellow C2C rider Neil. It was tough at first but I’m glad I pushed myself.

I thought I would be sore afterwards, but it wasn’t until after football on Monday that I started to feel it.

My knees appear to be telling me that football is not for me anymore; every time I’ve played in the last three months I’ve suffered with pain at the back of both knees, particularly my left, for a few days afterwards.

I suspect it’s something to do with my leg muscles not being in the best condition, although my hip problem surely plays its part. Then again maybe it’s just old age!

I’m still trying to confirm a new date for the C2C in 2013 and hope to have one confirmed in the next couple of weeks. This year is full of events so tying down a week that’s suitable for everyone is not easy!

The ride on Sunday was mainly dry and after little rain this week I’m looking forward to another ride this weekend.

There may have been no rain, but there’s been lots of cold weather and so I’ll be taking care while out. Perhaps Sunday will bring sunny conditions when the temperatures will rise a little!

INJURY AND WEATHER UPDATE

This week I’ve had to endure my second cortisone injection on my left elbow for ‘tennis elbow’. It has hampered me for about two months now and the injection is a last resort as it’s not good to have too many of them.

I’m feeling ok not and might even venture out on the bike this weekend as it’s the repetitive use of my hand/elbow that causes the problem.

After the weekend I’m going to step up the training, subject to my elbow feeling better and will book the hotels etc for the C2C this year.

That said the weather may spoil that as Sunday is threatening to snow and I’m full out of snow tyres!

The roads around my house that I’ll be practicing on aren’t in great condition, mainly due to the very wet weather, some harsh frosts and a little bit of snow.

I’m hoping to get one of the C2C team, Neil, to come out with me as it’s always good to get out on the bike with some company – it helps push you that little bit more.

As this is a rather short post due to my one hand typing, I’ll put another update up once the weekend is over and my elbow is feeling good.
